The Timmons Arts Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization devoted to promoting awareness of and exposure to the arts through arts education, is delighted to announce that Arkansas’ first lady Ginger Beebe will be the guest of honor at the official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Foundation’s inaugural Cultivating the Arts Summer Youth Camp.

“We are thrilled to have not just the first lady of our state, but a long-time advocate of the arts and a champion of children’s health issues as the featured speaker at our ceremony,” said Theresa Timmons, who established the Foundation in 2011. “I can’t imagine a more appropriate figure to help launch our camp, which includes education in arts as well as fitness for kids.”

The ribbon cutting will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the Willie L. Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center, 3805 W. 12th St., Little Rock. The camp, which is offered at no cost to participants, is presented in conjunction with the Arkansas Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association and the First Tee of Arkansas and is supported in part by a grant from the Arkansas Arts Council.

The goal of the camp, which has selectively chosen 50 participants from local, at-risk students, is to provide introductory arts education in the areas of visual art, vocal performance, instrumental performance, dance and fashion design, as well instruction in the art of healthy living through fitness and nutrition education. The camp runs daily from July 7 to August 1.

In addition to the first lady, the program for the day’s kickoff includes remarks from Timmons and a ceremonial ribbon cutting courtesy of the Little Rock Area Chamber of Commerce. Following the speakers, guests will be invited to meet camp educators, who will be on hand to discuss their programs and offer demonstrations. Cake and punch will be served.
